Amazing catamaran trip today! Crew were lovely, sea was a wee bit choppy for some but the choppier the better for me! Loved every minute of it! Got to see some pilot whales that the crew said were native to only the area between Tenerife, La Gomera and Hawaii! Very cool!!! Highly recommend booking this trip!!!

Freebird Sailing was founded in 1994, specialising in cruises aboard a 30-seater catamaran. Now the largest catamaran service in the Canary Islands, offering trips on 3 catamarans.

But are they the best choice for your catamaran trip?

First you should thoroughly check prices, food options and the number of people onboard. Freebird has a good reputation with 4 stars out of 5. There are others with 5 out of 5 so look at the small niggles on Freebirds reviews.

The most common irritation seems to be value for money especially with food.

We were told that the trip catered for vegetarians which was a complete lie. The only dish served was meatballs and rice, with the veggie option being just rice. Not paella rice. Not egg fried rice. Just boiled rice, a bread roll and a banana.

You can rent a sunbed for 10 euros which we did very comfortable. Please bring your own food as they only offer a small bread roll each with cheese and ham. Free soft drinks, beer and water during trip though.

Far to many people on board not enough sun lounger and the ones on board you had to pay extra for but only if you were there early enough to bag one , food absolutely terrible considering the price paid per ticket

Freebird One

Freebird One is a unique catamaran, built in France and designed for comfort and a unique experience in whale and dolphin watching in Tenerife. With its 28m length, it is the largest catamaran on the Canary Islands for sea excursions.

Freebird F13

F13 is the new star of the fleet, a Tahiti 75 model catamaran, built by Fountaine Pajot, one of the best recreational boat builders in the world. It has been recently refurbished to update its design and services on board. F24 is a stylish catamaran, a modern Tahiti 75 model catamaran, built in 2008 by Fountaine Pajot, one of the best recreational boat builders in the world. For dolphin and whale watching, there is a place in the Canary Islands that is amongst the best in the world. Tenerife is home to the Teno-Rasca Marine Strip. Dolphins are most active in the morning and evening. They tend to be less active at night, especially if it’s cloudy or rainy out. Dolphins are here year round although many of them are migratory. They are most frequently seen in the warm months from May to October when the water is warmer.

Of course, there is no guarantee that you will see Dolphins but it’s rare not to see Whales on your trip. Whale-watching tours usually sail from Puerto Colón, Costa Adeje, Los Gigantes, or Los Cristianos.

This is our second time on this trip and will go for the third when we Come back. We have seen whales and dolphins and a lot of small fish at the bay were we could swim. Thanks to Viktor and Slava we had a beautiful Day on the boat and enjoyed every second of the trip. Thanks and see you back in November.

This trip was brilliant! We saw pilot whales up really close and two beautiful green turtles! We took our 3 children, one who is in a buggy and crew couldn’t have been more helpful! Drinks and food on board with plenty to go round and a little snorkel stop too! Snorkels were provided too which was a bonus! Even when booking they couldn’t have been more helpful as we had to change dates a few time due to illness but nothing was too much trouble! The boat had a nice amount of people on so we had space to move around and see all there was to see! Would definitely go with them again!!

This was such a lovely day for myself and my little boy. The crew were amazing with him. The wildlife we saw that day was so beautiful and special to see them in their natural environment
Will definitely be doing this trip again when i am next in Tenerife !

Folks, I am going to blaspheme now BUT Puerto de la Cruz is not the best place for a boat trip.

If you are hardcore about your boat trips and enjoy the more choppy weather in the North, well that great, but if you need relaxation on your boat trips then Puerto del la Cruz may not be for you.

That said, many boat trip operators pick you up early morning in Puerto de la Cruz and transport you to Las Americas to pick up the boat. They may give you a couple of hours free time before the trip , which can last from 3 to 4 hours .

The tourist mecca that is Puerto Colón Marina is located in the south of Tenerife, just 16 kilometers from the Reina Sofía airport.

Located in Playa de las Américas, one of the busiest tourist areas on the island, it is protected by a curved breakwater and its maximum draft at low tide is two meters. Its capacity for 364 anchored boats and 237 dry berths with a maximum of 24 meters in length make this marina one of the best prepared marinas.

There are many boat and catamaran trips to be found in Puerto Colon as well as a host of bars and restaurants to choose from.
